Islamic State of Iraq's Al-Furqan Media Releases Ninth Installment of "Knights of Martyrdom" Series

The Islamic State of Iraq (ISI) has released the ninth installment of its video martyrology series The Knights of Martyrdom (Fursan al-Shahadah) today via its Al-Furqan Media Foundation. The ISI is an umbrella organization that includes as members several of the most violent and radical jihadi-takfiri groups operating in the country, including al-Qa'ida in the Land of the Two Rivers/Iraq (AQI). Its formation was announced in a video tape released in October 2006, though it mostly involved a change in name for a previous umbrella, the Mujahideen Shura Council (MSC), of which AQI was also the largest member group.

The new video is dedicated to the Islamic Emirate of the Caucasus, an umbrella of Caucasus Muslim insurgent groups fighting Russia and its regional allies and clients. The ninth installment continues the pattern of later videos in the series being dedicated to regions of the Muslim world undergoing persecution. Past installments have been dedicated to East Turkestan, seized by the Chinese, and Nigeria, where violence frequently erupts between Nigerian Muslims and non-Muslims.
