Al-Qa'ida Central's (AQC) media outlet, the Al-Sahab (The Clouds) Media Foundation, released a new video message from one of its senior leaders, Abu Yahya al-Libi, who is widely considered to be AQC's "mufti" or chief religious jurist. The message is entitled "To Our People in Libya" and is just over half an hour. Abu Yahya urges the Libyan people to be vigilant in their struggle against their country's autocratic ruler, Mu'ammar al-Qadhafi (Gaddafi, Qaddafi, Kadafi). As has al-Qadhafi and anti-Libyan regime rebels, he invokes the name of the country's national hero, 'Umar al-Mukhtar, who led a lengthy resistance campaign against Italian Fascist colonialism in the 1920s until September 1931. Abu Yahya refers to al-Mukhtar as "Shaykh al-Shuhada" (Leader of the Martyrs).
The AQC leader also blasts the "tyrant-idols" (Tawaghit) in the region and urges Muslims to use the power they possess, as evidenced by the recent uprisings in Egypt, Yemen, and Tunisia, to overthrow the other Arab and Muslim autocrats around the world. He blasts by name the former Tunisian autocratic president Zayn al-'Abidin ben 'Ali, current Yemeni president 'Ali 'Abdullah Saleh, and Egypt's former president and "pharaoh" Hosni Mubarak.
