The powerful Iraqi Twelver Shi'i leader al-Sayyid Muqtada al-Sadr issued a statement today backing peaceful protests by Iraqis tomorrow. He also rejected continued U.S. military interference inside Iraq.
I am a Ph.D. student in the Institute of Islamic Studies at McGill University. I completed my B.A. in History, Religious Studies, & Islamic Studies at George Mason University and my M.A. in Near Eastern Languages & Cultures at Indiana University, Bloomington.
My primary research interests are Shi'i Islam, modern Muslim political (Islamist) and social movements, radical Sunni Islamism, and Islamist visual culture and new media.
