New Video from Al-Qa'ida Central "Mufti" Abu Yahya al-Libi Urges Muslims to Rescue 'Aafia Siddiqui

A video message from Abu Yahya al-Libi was released today by Al-Qa'ida Central's (AQC; Qaeda, Qaida) media outlet, the Al-Sahab (The Clouds) Media Foundation. He is widely considered by transnational jihadi-takfiris as AQC's mufti or chief religious jurist, since he reportedly received some traditional education in the Islamic religious sciences. The video message is entitled, "'Aafia Siddiqui: Captivity & Subjugation...Where are the Heroes?" In it he speaks about the Pakistani-American scientist who is currently imprisoned for attempting to kill U.S. officers in Afghanistan. She has received vocal support from many jihadi-takfiri and Afghanistan Taliban officials.

The video was released in Arabic and Urdu (voice-over). In it, Abu Yahya urges Muslims to "rescue" Siddiqui and he calls out Pakistan's Muslim religious scholars ('ulama). It includes clips from a two-part Al-Sahab video documenting Abu Yahya's escape from the U.S. military prison in Bagram, Afghanistan in 2005 with three other prisoners: 'Umar al-Faruq, Muhammad Ja'far Jamal al-Qahtani, and 'Abdullah al-Shami.

Abu Yahya last appeared in a video eulogy for Abu 'Umar al-Baghdadi and Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, the two leaders of the Islamic State of Iraq (ISI) and Al-Qa'ida in the Land of the Two Rivers/Iraq (AQI) who were killed in a U.S.-Iraqi military strike on April 18 or 19. The video eulogy was released on June 15.
