English (voice-over) translation of the full speech by Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, on this year's anniversary of the death of Grand Ayatullah al-Sayyid Ruhollah Khumayni (Khomeini), a major revolutionary dissident against the Pahlavi monarchy and the father of the Islamization of the country's 1978-1979 Revolution. Ahmadinejad also addresses the recent controversial and much debated Israeli military raid on the first Gaza aid flotilla in international waters that resulted in the deaths of nine people from Israeli commandos' bullets. Press TV is the Iranian government's English-language satellite TV news network.
Ahmadinejad gives, unsurprisingly, a rosy picture of Khumayni and says that the late leader followed the path of the Prophet Muhammad. Ahmadinejad neglects to mention the human rights abuses that Khumayni's government was responsible for. He is also, unsurprisingly, critical of the Israeli military raid on the first Gaza-bound aid flotilla and the state of Israel generally. Ahmadinejad also says that the "most democratic" elections in the world are held in the Islamic Republic of Iran, a ridiculous claim that he has made in the past.
