The United States, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, & Al-Qa'ida: Interview with Prof. Bernard Haykel of Princeton University
Embedded is an interview with Prof. Bernard Haykel of Princeton University's Near Eastern Studies Program with CNN reporter Christiane Amanpour about Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and the state of Al-Qa'ida Central (AQC) and its affiliates. He earned his D.Phil. at Oxford University, where he studied with the famous German Islamicist and specialist in Shi'i Islam Wilferd Madelung and Yemen expert Paul Dresch. Haykel has conducted extensive fieldwork in Yemen and Saudi Arabia, is an expert in the history of both countries, and is also an expert in Islamic law and has written extensively about Zaydi Shi'ism in Yemen during the modern period. Haykel is completing two books, one on Saudi Arabia and another on the Salafi trend in Sunni Islam around the Muslim world.
