Afghan Taliban Release Video of Two French Journalists Held Hostage, Frenchmen Plead with Gov't to Abide by Taliban's Demands

The Afghan Taliban have released a short video of two French journalists for the France 3 television station who were captured with their Afghan driver and translator, who has since been released, in Kapisa Province on December 30. The channel has requested that the two men's names be withheld. The journalists say that they are healthy and plead with French president Nicolas Sarkozy to meet the Taliban's demands. As non-combatants, the holding of these two men breaks international laws governing warfare.

The Arabic-language message identifying the two Frenchmen as prisoners that accompanied the video is reproduced below. In some jihadi-takfiri forums, the two are erroneously identified as "French soldiers."
