Knights under the Prophet's Banner: Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri's Ideological Treatise par excellence

"O' Jerusalem, We're Coming," al-Aqsa Mosque

Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri is al-Qa'ida Central's (AQC) chief ideologue, a former surgeon, and the former leader of the Egyptian al-Jihad group. In December 2001, one of his monographs, entitled Knights under the Prophet's Banner, was published and then serialized partially in al-Sharq al-Awsat, the London-based newspaper connected to the Saudi prince Salman bin 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Sa'ud. The monograph doubles as a memoir of al-Zawahiri's younger days as a radical Islamist activist in his native Egypt and an ideological treatise in which he lays out his political and religious world view, and the role he thinks the "global jihadi movement" that he and Usama bin Laden sought to create with AQC should play in the future.
